Editorial

Now that the base structure is complete, a lot more material is on the way. Our intention is to first get the base structure complete, then start adding content, finally develop the look of the on-line periodical. It's not the polished professional look that most publish, but there is a need. Previously, hocna.org tried to serve everyone - barely. Updates were only twice a year - and people complained. In the summer of 2005, we began to take active control and add new material every three months - people complained. So we split from offical HOCNA control to control of the institute and university (under the HOCNA publication) - people complained. After more than three months of warnings that the site was under going major structural changes, the HOCNA publication became active (Vol. 0) with the old content moved to the HOCNA library (http://library.hocna.org/hocna-org) - people complained. Yet in the time from October 2005 to March 2006 (when the orthodox library has started to come online) those who have complained have done - nothing!

In fact, this is one of the fundamental problems with HOCNA. A university study (which will be looked at in more detail in an article) pointed out HOCNA's lack of outreach and almost non-existent infrastructure. Further, from observation it has become clear that few in HOCNA actual understand the miracle of St. Nektarios of Toronto and what it means to HOCNA. This lack of understanding is a threat to the future of HOCNA. HONCA now (due to the aging of the heirarchy) is treated to become like the rest of the micro-synod orthodox. However, it's the intention of this institue to develop and provide the infrastructure (independently) that is needed for all orthodox.

To this effect, it was found to impossible to provide a single place for all levels of understanding. To deal with people interested in being born into the Family of God and those Family member who want to learn more, anyone not seriously studying the Church or those who are thinking of leaving - The St. Nektarios Mission(s) has been set-up. This site is now a theological journal designed for people who are serious in studying the Church. This will include a study in patristics, ecumenism, church history and the beginnings of a new online HOCNA Library @ http://library.hocna.org/hocna-org (which currently holds the old site). Further, we intend to move the Orthodox Christian Witness, Kibotos and the Faithful Steward under the HOCNA library. We currently have about 2gb of hard-drive space and are working on getting a new 120gb library server. We hope in near future (fall 2006) to have a full theological library online.
